Lander University Announces Plans for 2024 Homecoming and Reunion Weekend

LanderHomecoming2024-alumnilogo.jpgLander University’s 2024 Homecoming Week and Alumni Reunion Weekend, scheduled Feb. 5 – 10, will send students, alumni and friends traveling back in time with the theme, “Celebrating the Spirit of the New Millennium.”

The year 2000 ushered in an era of exciting pop culture, technology innovations, bold fashion statements and chart-topping music from well-known country, rap and rock stars. Lander’s Homecoming will feature retro-themed activities and competitions designed to bring the past into the present.

“The Lander Alumni Association encourages alumni and friends to return to campus and join students in activities and attend their own alumni-centered events,” said Suzann Couts, Lander’s executive director of Alumni Engagement. “Our Homecoming activities and Reunion Weekend give us the opportunity to celebrate during a week that coincides with the commemoration of the University’s founding in February 1872.”

On Friday, Feb. 9, alumni are invited to a Welcome Back Alumni Social for all classes that will be held from 7 – 10 p.m. at Sports Break. The Alumni Awards Celebration and 50th Reunion Dinner will be held on Saturday in the Johnston Commons of the Abney Cultural Center. The 2023 Distinguished Alumna is Lisa Britt ’90. Revis Butler ’13 is the recipient of the 2023 Young Alumni Achievement Award.

For Lander students, Homecoming festivities begin Monday, Feb. 5, with a Banner Reveal at 5 p.m. at the Grier Student Center when students unveil their Homecoming banners. The event will be followed by the Strongest Bearcat competitions at 6 p.m. in the Abney Cultural Center Auditorium.

The week includes a full agenda of sports, a talent showcase, trivia night and more as the excitement leads to the Homecoming Tailgating Party on Saturday from 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. on the front lawn, where a Tailgate Kids Fun Zone runs until 1:30 p.m.

The day also includes back-to-back basketball games. At 1:30 p.m., the women’s basketball team battles Clayton State University. The Homecoming King will be crowned at halftime. The women’s game will be followed at 3:30 p.m, by the men’s basketball team competing against Clayton State. Halftime activities will include the crowning of the University’s Homecoming Queen.
