Chandler Center

The facility is dedicated in memory of Joe V. Chandler, who served Lander University with distinction as a professor of physical education and exercise studies from 1972 and as a chair of the Physical Education and Exercise Studies Division from 1987, until his death in 1995. The building opened in 1993 and began serving students, faculty and staff with many tremendous recreation opportunities. 

Students can check out sports equipment at the Equipment Issue Desk.

Free play dominates the building in the afternoons, while academics take priority in the morning. known as PEES to many Lander students, the Chandler Center is the campus hub for all indoor recreation.

ID POLICY: In order to use the Joe V. Chandler Center for recreational purposes, ALL Patrons must have a Valid Lander I.D. Card.

3-Court Gymnasium with Walk/Jog Track

Our spacious 3-Court Gymnasium is a hub for recreational and competitive sports, including basketball, volleyball, and more. Whether you're joining a pick-up game or practicing for your next intramural match, there’s ample space for you. Above the courts, the walk/jog track offers a fantastic indoor alternative for those who prefer to exercise with a bird's-eye view of the action, all while staying sheltered from the elements.

Racquetball Courts

The Chandler Center has 4 racquetball courts. Racquetball is a fast-paced game that requires endurance, skill and body control. The game is more casual than tennis but very challenging. Enthusiasts enjoy it for its vigorous work-out.

Aerobics/Dance Studio

The Aerobics Studio is a vibrant, multi-purpose space that’s perfect for group fitness classes, yoga, dance, and more. With floor-to-ceiling mirrors and a sound system designed to keep you motivated, it’s the ideal spot for those looking to engage in high-energy classes or a calming yoga session. Whether you’re a beginner or seasoned pro, there’s a class for every fitness level.
