You love language. Whether through speech, literature or creative writing, words invigorate your life, and you want to transform that passion into a career.

Students in classAs an English or Spanish major at Lander, you'll learn to do just that - with a program that gives you the freedom to explore your own interests while providing enough balance in your studies to prepare for specific career paths.

Our English faculty includes Fulbright Scholars with backgrounds as diverse as the subjects they teach. Our Spanish faculty, most of whom hold doctoral degrees, have a variety of interests and skills in foreign language study and usage. They all weave years of study, travel and life experience into their teaching styles, guaranteeing a varied and challenging look at language and literature.

And because of the small class sizes at Lander, you'll enjoy a comfortable openness within the classroom - you'll get to know both the faculty and fellow students, and you'll have ample opportunity to interact with each other and grow intellectually.

Student studyingYou might picture English and Spanish majors eternally stowed away in the library, reading Shakespearean sonnets or analyzing the classic works of Miguel de Cervantes. In reality, our students are more likely to be found devouring a plate of home-cooked food at supper meetings of English or Spanish clubs... or attending concerts and plays that relate to classroom studies... or traveling to nearby literary locales or graduate schools... or participating in field trips that deconstruct a best-selling novel or motion picture.
