N ew S tudent O rientation
2008
So you’ve been admitted and have decided to come to Lander University… NOW WHAT??? We know starting college can be a crazy experience! So wouldn’t it be great to “test drive” Lander before you actually start classes in September?
Our N ew S tudent O rientation program ( NSO ) will give you a preview of the college experience and answer all those questions swirling around in your head. You will be placed into small groups, led by current Lander student leaders, based on the major on file in the Admissions Office (call them at 1-888-4LANDER if you need to make a change).
During NSO , you will learn everything you need to know to be successful at Lander University. While you are with us, you will make new friends, live on campus (Centennial Hall to be exact), eat in the Dining Hall, make new friends, discover where you can park your car (YES you CAN bring your car), get your laptop certified so you can access the campus network, make new friends, learn about Academic Support Services, meet with an academic advisor, get your class schedule, …did I mention you will make new friends?
Sound interesting? The dates we have set aside are June 15 – 17 and July 13 – 15. There is a $100 fee for your participation that will cover all meals, an NSO t-shirt, miscellaneous materials, and housing. NOTE - the fee does not change for a commuting student during NSO . To ensure you get the most out of your NSO experience, we highly recommend that you stay on campus for the program.
While NSO is designed for you the student, we know that some parents will come with you and stay in town while you are here. For them, we will have a short program on Sunday afternoon. We will talk with them about your transition to college, what will be expected of you while attending Lander and what resources Lander has available to you.
So, come on! Pack your duffle bag, your bathing suit, your appetite, your questions, and your concerns and come to one of our NSO programs in June or July. The June and July NSO programs give the best introduction to college life and give the best choice of classes. For those unable to participate in one of the comprehensive NSO experiences, an abbreviated session will be offered shortly before classes begin.
If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at jconstant@lander.edu or at 864.388.8244. See you this summer…go BEARCATS!!!!!!!
