Freshman FAQs

What is a timeslot?

Your timeslot will be a specific date and time that you will be allowed to access the Room (Room Search Wizard), Meal, and Confirmation Page within your application in the Housing Portal. Currently, you are not able to view these three steps.  Once these steps are completed, your application will be complete.

Your timeslot will be based on the day and time you paid your $150 Housing Application fee. Those who paid earlier will have an earlier timeslot. Timeslots will run from Tuesday, May 25 – Thursday, May 27 during business hours.

When your timeslot opens you will log in to MyLander – Housing Portal and complete the Room (Room Search Wizard), Meal and Confirmation Page.

Am I required to live on campus?

All first-time freshman are required to live on campus (unless approved by University Housing for an exemption).

Do I have to log in at the exact time as my timeslot to select my room and meal plan?

No, you can log in anytime on or after your timeslot, just not before.

What if I pay the $150 after May 1?

If you pay your Application Fee after May 1, 2021 you will not receive a timeslot and the Room, Meal, and Confirmation Page will be available to you for assignment beginning at 9am June 15, 2021.  Please mark your calendar

Which Residence Halls are for Freshman?

You will have the opportunity to select a space in the following communities: New Residence Hall, Chipley, Centennial Hall, Brookside, and Williamston. You will select your space on-line

What should you be doing now to prepare?
  • Review the different residence halls and their layouts to get a feel for what you like/don’t like.  After doing so communicate with your accepted roommates on where you want to live. Go ahead and agree on a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd choice. It’s important to always have a back-up plan in case the residence hall you want is full and you have to select a different one.
  • Make sure that if there is someone you want to live with that you have them listed under ‘Accepted Roommates’ prior to your timeslot opening. You will only be able to find students in the Housing Portal who have paid $150 and who are also incoming freshman.
  • If you have accepted roommates find out which of you has the earliest timeslot once they are sent out. This person will have the capability to assign the rest of you and needs to know what your 1st, 2nd, and 3rd choices are.
If my accepted roommate assigns me to a room what do I do at my timeslot? Will I need to log in?

Yes! You will still need to log in and select your Meal Plan and complete the Confirmation Page.

Can I change or cancel my room?

You will not be able to change  your room once it has been selected. We will be opening up a Request to Move form for freshman closer to the start of school. We will notify you and e-mail you instructions closer to time.

Why does my application say incomplete?

Your application will remain in an incomplete status until your room and meal assignments are made by you.

Do I need to come to Lander’s campus for selecting my room?

No, you should not need to. The room selection process is all on-line. So, you can access this anywhere you have Wi-Fi/Internet Connection.
