Family Weekend set for Oct. 18-20 at Lander University

Family-Day-F18-TN.jpgWith the promise of October's cooler temperatures and colorful autumn foliage, Lander University is preparing to host Family Weekend from Oct 18-20.

The weekend kicks off on Friday, Oct. 18 with a free outdoor concert when "The Tams" perform at Oktoberfest in Uptown Greenwood. Students and their families are invited to a reception at The Arts Center of Greenwood later that evening.

Saturday, Oct. 19 is a whirlwind of activities for Lander students, alumni, employees and their families. The morning begins with a horse show at the Lander Equestrian followed by a rugby game, a picnic lunch on the lawn, inflatables, face-painting, balloon animals, and musical performances at the Dingle Amphitheatre. The afternoon includes a soccer game, volleyball match, outdoor yoga, cornhole tournament and paint & pour.

"Family Weekend is a yearly tradition here at Lander," said Demario Watts, director of Student Activities and Engagement. "We are excited about the opportunity to welcome Lander families to Greenwood and our campus."

Food trucks from local eateries will park around Laura Lander Circle in the late afternoon to sell food and adult beverages before the evening concert at the Amphitheatre. The band "U-Neek Flav'ur" takes the stage at 5:30 p.m., followed by a reception of delicious desserts.

The weekend concludes on Sunday morning with a horse show at the Lander Equestrian Center. Go online to www.lander.edu/family-weekend for detailed information and to register.
