The Lander University fishing team of senior Ben Stone, left, and junior Greyson Williams display their trophies after placing second in the Bassmaster College Classic, held March 18 at Lake Keowee, S.C.

The Lander Bass Fishing program set a high bar in 2017 by qualifying a team in the ColleWilliams, the team could be in for its biggest year yet.

Stone and Williams placed second in the Bassmaster College Classic, held March 18 at Lake Keowee, S.C. The fishing duo caught fish weighing 12 lbs., 3 ounces - less than a pound behind tournament winner Kansas State. Stone was one of two Lander fishermen to qualify for the 2017 nationals.

The tournament fielded nine invited teams, which Lander Bass Fishing President Trevor Stewart called "some of the best of the best."

Even though the 2018 nationals are still four months away, Stewart said Stone and Williams's showing at Lake Keowee has all of the team members anticipating a second straight appearance.

"For Stone and Williams to finish 2nd on this kind of stage speaks volumes about our program here at Lander," Stewart said. "And the program is only going to continue to grow."
