A Lander University student earned first-place honors during a recent psychology conference for her research on people's thoughts about the Confederate flag.
Kendra Tamaklo, a senior psychology student from Anderson, placed first among 46 poster presentations during the Georgia Undergraduate Research in Psychology Conference at Kennesaw State University on April 15. For her project, "Pledging to the Flag: Factors that influence identification and attitudes," she developed an online survey to collect people's opinions of the Confederate flag.
Tamaklo's research was carried out as part of an independent research class under the supervision of Dr. Jonathan Bassett and Dr. Deb Acorn, faculty members in Lander's Department of Psychological Science.
Other colleges and universities represented during the conference include Emory University, Georgia Institute of Technology, Kennesaw State University and the University of South Carolina Upstate.
