Lander Alumnus Featured in CBS ‘Canal’ Segment

brad-utter.jpgLander graduate Brad Utter, '97, was interviewed by CBS News correspondent Richard Schlesinger on July 9 for a feature story on the 200th anniversary of the construction of the Erie Canal.

Utter is the senior Historian/Curator of Science and Technological History at the New York State Museum Cultural Education Center in Albany, N.Y.

The CBS Sunday Morning segment was a first for Utter, which he called "very exciting."

'"The Canal Bicentennial committee recommended that CBS call me, and they did," Utter said. "It was nice to be part of something this big, and I was honored to represent the canal community and the state museum."

Utter is preparing a month-long state museum Exhibit on the history and importance of the Erie Canal and how it shaped America's expansion westward.

Stay tuned for more on this alumni's upcoming exhibit.

"I hope the Exhibit will re-kindle public interest in the history of the Canal," he said.
