The public will have the opportunity to hear from candidates in several local and state races during a nonpartisan candidate forum at Lander University on Tuesday, Nov. 1.
Co-sponsored by Lander, the Greenwood Chamber of Commerce and the Index-Journal, the event will take place from 5:30-7 p.m. in the Josephine B. Abney Cultural Center Auditorium. It is free and open to the community. Parking will be available in the lots along Lander's main entrance boulevard and Willson Avenue.
The event is FALS-approved for Lander students with valid student ID.
Dr. Lucas McMillan, chair of Lander's Department of Political and Social Sciences and chair of the university's chapter of the American Democracy Project, will serve as moderator. The candidates invited to participate in the forum are:
Candidates for each race will sound off on stage in a timed question-and-answer session, as well as provide a brief personal statement. While questions will not be taken from the audience that night, the public and members of the Lander community will have the opportunity to submit topics and questions for candidates prior to the event.

"The purpose of this forum is to give area residents a chance to hear how the candidates stand on the issues that matter most to them," said Dr. Lucas McMillan, adding that it is also an excellent civic engagement and education opportunity for Lander students. "It reminds students about how political officials make the decisions that affect our daily lives."
Voters will head to the polls for the general election on Tuesday, Nov. 8.
