Largest Group for Recruiting Event Shows Ongoing Trend in Growing Enrollment for Lander University

lander-open-house_2016-TN.jpgLander University's Office of Admissions hosted the school's largest recruiting event on Saturday, Nov. 19, at its second Open House event of the year.

"Nearly 1,000 people were registered, and it was the largest group we've ever had here at Lander for Open House," said Andy Benoit, vice president for Enrollment and Access Management at Lander.

Open House gives high school students a taste of life at the university. In addition to touring the campus and residence halls, attendees can speak with officials about financial aid, student life, student organizations and more.

The strong interest in Open House reflects a growing enrollment trend that began with the launch of Dr. Richard Cosentino's tenure as president in mid-2015. Enrollment for the fall 2016 term represented the first increase in overall enrollment at Lander in five years.

Other numbers that reveal the growing enrollment trend at Lander include applicants for 2017:

  • Up nearly 70 percent overall
  • Fall term up by 64 percent
  • Spring term up by 80 percent
  • Summer term up by 17 percent

"When enrollment was trending downward, we did the opposite of what most colleges would do. Rather than cutting, we invested in recruitment, classroom technology, laboratories and the overall student experience," said Cosentino.
