Timpani player Matt Bratton, of Clover, rehearses for the Lander University Wind Ensemble's upcoming show. Bratton, described by Dr. Reed Gallo as a "very strong player," will be featured in the selection, "Flashing Winds," by Belgian composer Jan Van der Roost.

Music enthusiasts can get a foretaste of the music that will be played at the inauguration of Dr. Richard Cosentino, the newest president of Lander University, by attending the Lander Wind Ensemble's Tuesday, Feb. 23 show.

The performance, which starts at 8 p.m. in the Josephine B. Abney Cultural Center Auditorium, is free and open to the public.

The show will feature "Celebration Fanfare," by American composer Steven Reineke; "Crown Imperial," by English composer William Walton; "Song Without Words," the second movement of English composer Gustav Holst's "Second Suite in F"; "The Hounds of Spring," by American composer Alfred Reed; and "Procession of the Nobles," by Russian composer Nikolay Rimsky-Korsakov. All five pieces will be heard at Cosentino's March 21 installment as Lander's 12th president.

Additional selections include "On a Hymnsong of Philip Bliss," by American composer David Holsinger; the overture to "Italian in Algiers," by Italian composer Gioachino Rossini; and "Flashing Winds," by Belgian composer Jan Van der Roost.

Lander Associate Professor of Music Dr. Reed Gallo, who directs the ensemble, described the program as having an abundance of "upbeat, regal music."

Gallo said that he and his musicians consider it "a great honor" to have been asked to provide the music at next month's inauguration, which will be attended by numerous dignitaries.

"We are representing our music program to the highest level we can. Please come hear us and support us in this endeavor," he said.
