S C. High School Students to Converge on Lander for Annual Choral Festival

Over 450 students from seven high schools will gather at Lander University on Friday, Feb. 12, to perform in the university's 29th Choral Festival. The choirs are among the top ensembles across South Carolina, according to Dr. Chuck Neufeld, director of Choral Activities and Associate Professor of Choral Music and Voice at Lander.

Neufeld said, "Not only will the students perform, they will also learn about choral music as they listen to other choirs. The groups will also be judged by and receive clinical instruction from three choral music experts."

The choral groups scheduled to perform are the Emerald High School Concert Choir; the Greenwood High School Advanced Chorus; White Knoll High School Concert Choir, of Lexington; Ridge View High School Chamber Singers, of Columbia; York Comprehensive High School Concert Choir, of York; The Ladies Honors Choir of Cane Bay High School, in Summerville; and The Voices of Woodmont from Woodmont High School, in Piedmont.

Lander's University Singers and Old Main Singers will also perform in the festival in the Josephine B. Abney Cultural Center Auditorium, beginning at 1 p.m.

Neufeld said awards will be presented in several categories, including the top three performances of the day and ratings awards for each choir.

The festival is free and open to the public.
