The newest winner of the Thayer Award, presented on behalf of the family of Dr. Henry K. Thayer to the Lander University student who graduates with the highest average, is William Justin Thompson, of Gray Court.

Thompson, a mass communications major, finished the spring 2015 semester with a perfect 4.0 grade point average.

"We're very proud of you. This is an impressive accomplishment," said Lander President Dr. Rich Cosentino, presenting Thompson with an engraved cup and a check for $200.

Thompson said he's looking for a job that allows him to "make a difference in people's lives."

He had positive things to say about the experience of attending Lander, the only place he visited before deciding on a school.

"I enjoyed every minute I was here. I knew this was where I wanted to go," he said.
