Four Lander University graduates who received their degrees within the last five years have pooled together sums of money and established a scholarship at Lander. It is called The Suitcase of Courage Scholarship, a $10,000 endowed fund that will be open to qualified Lander business students.

The scholarship takes its name from the company founded and run by Waterloo native Cameron Dorn, who received a business degree with a marketing management emphasis from Lander in 2010. His firm specializes in employee wellness, and he is under contract to Fujifilm in Greenwood and its other locations in the U.S. Dorn has also gained national acclaim as a record-setting endurance athlete and distance runner.

His partners in creating the scholarship also received Lander business degrees. They are:

  • Dylan Potts, who graduated with Dorn in 2010 with an emphasis in finance/economics. Potts played on Lander's men's soccer team and now works for J.P. Morgan Chase in New York City.
  • Piers de Gruchy, a 2011 graduate with an accounting emphasis who was a member of Lander's men's golf team. He is employed by Deloitte as an assistant manager in Jersey, in the British Channel Islands, which was his home before enrolling at Lander.
  • Jarrod Moody, a 2012 graduate with a health care management emphasis. A member of Lander's triathlon team, Moody is a Chest Pain Center coordinator at Providence Hospitals, in Columbia. He is also a member of the U.S. Air Force Reserve.

In explaining why the four men chose to create the scholarship, de Gruchy said, "It is really good to find a way to give back to Lander."

Vice President for University Advancement Ralph Patterson described the scholarship as a wonderful gesture by Dorn and his friends. "These four young men recognize the value of their Lander education." He added, "I hope their generosity inspires other Lander graduates to show their gratitude by creating or donating to scholarships that provide important financial assistance to many of our students."
