Another Successful Voter Registration Drive at Lander

There are 72 new registered voters at Lander University thanks to a recent voter registration drive at the university.

The event was conducted by Lander's American Democracy Project (ADP), which coordinates yearly activities related to celebrating the U.S. Constitution and voter registration.

Dr. Lucas McMillan, co-chair of Lander's ADP, said, "We are always very excited for Lander students to register to vote, since this marks one of the first ways in which a citizen can engage in the democratic process."

He added, "The ADP strives to make students aware of how politics and government affect their lives and tries to help teach civil discourse through its programs each year." Student volunteers from the Political Science Association and Palmetto State Teachers Association assisted with the registration campaign.

McMillan, an associate professor of political science at Lander, added that more Lander students could register before the Oct. 4 deadline now that the South Carolina Election Commission allows students with a valid S.C. driver's license to register online at www.scvotes.org.

The American Democracy Project (ADP) is a nonpartisan initiative of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities that encourages civic engagement among students. The ADP at Lander also brings speakers to campus, hosts forums on important public policy topics, sponsors debates, and gives the Student Organization of the Year Award for Civic Engagement.
