Lander University's Library Services recently sponsored a photography contest in which students were invited to submit a photograph of themselves or friends enjoying a "favorite spot" in the university's Jackson Library.
The idea behind the "Pick Your Spot" contest was to highlight some of the latest changes inside the library, including new seating arrangements in the building, said Lisa Wiecki, director of Library Services.
"We felt the photography contest would be a creative, engaging way for us to gauge how students are using the variety of study spaces now available in the library," she added.
Serving as judges for the contest entries were Lander faculty and staff members Jon Holloway, of the Visual Arts department; Claire Griffith, of Dining Services; and Keith McCaslan, with Student Activities.
Receiving first-place honors was Bia Choi, a visual arts major from Korea. Kaylee Jo Fowler, an early childhood education major from Greer, received second place in the contest, and third place went to graphic design major Laura Brown, of Laurens.
Each of the winners received a gift card to the Bearcat Shop, the university's campus bookstore, said Adam Haigh, coordinator of Library Outreach and Assessment. All of the entries will be featured on Library Services' social media platforms, he added.
