Doug Mikeal, a Lander University student from Irmo, recently worked with the production crew staging the National Association for Campus Activities South Regional Conference.
Mikeal, a student technical assistant in Lander's Special Events office, was one of only eight students chosen for the honor.
Like other NACA regional conferences, the South Showcase, held September 26-29 in Chattanooga, Tenn., provided an opportunity for talent scouts from area colleges and universities to meet performers available to do shows.
Mikeal, who has worked as a sound and light board operator, stage manager, video technician, electrician, carpenter and stage hand at Lander, was responsible for seeing that the drum kit of each band participating in the conference was properly miked.
The computer information systems major said the most challenging part of the job was "how fast-paced it was. There were many set changes that had to be done in less than five minutes."
Mikeal said he "liked it when the performers would thank us for what a great job we were doing. I liked watching the shows and knowing I had a part in making them happen."
Lander director of special events Eddie Shaw, who recommended Mikeal to NACA South production coordinator Matt Binion, said he knew that Mikeal's experience, work ethic, and desire to learn and face challenges would make him an ideal person for the job.
"I am proud of Doug for being awarded this job," Shaw said.
