Lander Announces Suspension of Its Continuing Education Program

Lander University will not offer a full continuing education program beginning in 2014. According to President Daniel Ball, the decision was based on declining enrollment.

Ball said, "The challenge has always been to find a variety of educationally enriching courses that appeal to a broad audience of learners." He added, "Lander's continuing education courses were scheduled during the evening and faced competition from other activities and interests of prospective students. In addition, we have seen an increase in the popularity of online courses that people can complete at home."

Shelley Grund, Lander's Continuing Education coordinator, said the SAT Doctor course, which prepares students to take a Scholastic Aptitude Test and was included in the spring 2014 curriculum, will be held as scheduled starting Saturday, Feb. 1. Registration will be accepted online at www.lander.edu/continuinged or by phone at 864-388-8426.

Grund has accepted a position with Lander's Office of Admissions to staff a new satellite office providing information and counseling to military veterans who want to enroll at Lander to start college or resume their education.

The program is in the process of being finalized. The satellite office will be located in the Greenwood County Veterans Center, in the former Greenwood County Library.
