Lander University student Katie Penland of Laurens, left, a business administration major with health care management emphasis, has received the Thomas N. Scales Scholarship in Health Care Management. Established in 1999 by family and friends in memory of Thomas N. Scales, a dedicated hospital, mental health and nursing home administrator, the scholarship is awarded to health care management majors who demonstrate potential for creative, caring leadership in the health care field.
