World War I shaped the South with political, economic, and social changes long after its battles ended on November 11, 1918.  South Carolina Humanities, the state-level organization that disperses funds from the National Endowment for the Humanities, has awarded Lander University’s College of Behavioral and Social Sciences a grant to host a two-day symposium on World War I’s effects on the South on March 14-15, 2019.

Through a disaster training exercise with the Greenwood County Emergency Management Department, students in Lander University’s Emergency Management class got a hands-on look at  how state and local authorities allocate and utilize available resources to ensure public safety during times of disaster.

After a year of planning, assembling, and handling tons of details, Dr. Robert Gardiner and 17 musicians from across South Carolina have just launched the SC Jazz Masterworks Ensemble – an 18-piece big band geared toward the study and play of Duke Ellington and other mid-20th century jazz greats.

Following an extensive national search, Lander University announced today that Mike Worley has been appointed vice president for University Advancement and executive director of The Lander Foundation.  He will begin his responsibilities with Lander on Nov. 19.
