Dr. Dava O'Connor, chair of Lander University's Department of Teacher Education, will travel to England this spring and spend a month at the University of Winchester as a guest lecturer on special education. She will also take part in ongoing research and public presentations.

David H. Wilkins, former United States Ambassador to Canada and a native of Greenville, will deliver a motivational address to about 224 degree candidates at Lander University's December commencement ceremonies, 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, in the university's Horne Arena.

With 37 years of teaching behind him, Lander University professor of music Dr. Paul Criswell is retiring. "Through the years I've taught kindergarten through graduate school. I wouldn't give any of it back, but it's time to move on," he said.

Lander University student Jeremy Babb has wanted to visit Washington, D.C., but never had occasion to make the trip. Now, he will spend the spring 2010 semester in the nation's capital thanks to his standing as an honor student, and a team effort by members of the Lander faculty, and his fiancée.

Teams of students representing Lander University, College of Charleston and Furman University squared off in a sudden death playoff to decide the winner of the annual quiz bowl that was the main attraction of the South Carolina Psychological Association's Academic day on Nov. 5, at the former Inn on the Square in Uptown Greenwood.
