Welcome to Bearcat Country! All freshmen students are required to attend First Year Student Orientation.

What is First Year Orientation?

Traditionally, First Year Orientation is a 2-day/1-night program that will show you the ropes here at Lander University. From getting involved on campus to tips on how to make A's during your first semester, Freshman Orientation will cover it all!

Due to COVID-19, our staff has made some changes to first year orientation.  Please read the following letter from our department.


First Year Orientation Options 2020

OPTION A: Virtual Orientation

The virtual orientation will be in place for students and family representatives that live out-of-state and cannot make an in-person orientation or for students and families that may not feel comfortable coming onto campus. Students must complete our “Preparing for College” modules in Blackboard, our course management system.

OPTION B: Traditional One Day Orientation

The in-person, traditional one-day orientation will consist of multiple informational sessions for both students and one family representative.  Lander University will be following social distancing guidelines that will be required during the entire day of orientation. Students must complete our “Preparing for College” modules in Blackboard, our course management system.

How to Register for First Year Orientation

Step 1:  Register for First Year Orientation

Please register for an orientation session! If you have signed up previously, you will still need to complete this registration form.

Step 2:  Learn how to access Blackboard & complete online module

Blackboard is Lander University’s site that will be used for all of your classes and assignments. Please return to our page on June 15 for more information. The course will be available to view on June 15.

Step 3:  Forms & Resources

Make sure that you have filled out and submitted all of the forms needed for you to start your college career! 

Family Orientation

Due to COVID-19, we have changed our schedule for Family Orientation. All families that have purchased a ticket to family orientation will be refunded their money within the next few weeks. We ask families to attend the orientation sessions with their student. We are offering both a virtual or traditional (in-person) options for students. If you and your student choose the “traditional” option, students will only have one family representative accompany them. Please make sure to bring your card with you to purchase lunch and buy your Lander gear in the Bearcat Shop!
