Mastering the art of Quality Management

MSM ProgramLander University is offering a fully online, 30-credit Master of Science in Management (M.S.M.) program. Graduates of the Lander University M.S.M. program would have a solid foundation in all aspects of Quality Management including process management, supply chain management, quality policy, quality planning, quality control, and quality improvement.

The M.S.M. is a unique degree that can satisfy the needs of regional manufacturing firms and other organizations for quality control and quality assurance. With the location of Lander University among a number of large manufacturing corporations and the continued economic health of this sector of the state’s economy, the demand for well-trained quality managers continues to be strong.

A variety of positions advertised in the region require quality management or quality control experience and training. Positions advertised include Quality Managers, Quality Assurance Team Leader, Quality Engineer, and Quality Control Specialist.

Representatives of local companies say the following about the M.S.M. program at Lander University:

  • “We see a wonderful opportunity to partner with Lander University for continuous education and development of our middle management workforce in the area.”
  • “I think that this would be a huge benefit not only for students immediately transitioning from an undergraduate program but also for non-traditional students that are currently working in the area and want to pursue a master’s degree.”
  • “This would help to expand our access to qualified candidates in these areas.”

Dr. Brizek discusses the design, the rollout, and how you can get enrolled in the new M.S.M. program.

Why an M.S.M. from Lander University?

  • Quality Management focus including Six Sigma. The M.S.M. provides more depth of knowledge and skills in management than an M.B.A. degree, which provides a broad range of courses.
  • Accredited by AACSB. All academic programs in the College of Business fall under the accreditation by the Association to Advance the Collegiate Schools of Business International (AACSB).
  • Online, 30-credit program. The online delivery provides an opportunity for employed graduate students to complete a Master’s degree by completing the program without the requirement to come to campus at specified times.
  • 12-month completion time for full-time students. With the 8-week course schedule and two 8-week sessions each fall and each spring and 6 credit hours in the summer, a full-time student may complete the program in 12 months. Students may also complete the program on a part-time basis.

The Value of the M.S.M. over the M.B.A.

  • The M.S.M. is a specialized degree program offering in-depth skills for managers of an organization. The Master’s in Business Administration, by contrast, is a broader, less specialized program.
  • Demand for specialized masters programs in business is on the rise, according to the GMAC Application Trends Survey Report 2017.

  • The M.S.M. is a great way for a graduate to start a career path as a professional manager who may eventually work into greater levels of responsibility. The M.S.M. is a stepping stone to continued professional development that may include an M.B.A. in the future.
  • The M.S.M. does not require professional experience although it is open to young professionals who have been working for some time. M.B.A. programs generally target people with a minimum of two or three years of professional experience.
