One of the benefits of attending Lander University is that you will be just blocks away from the great shopping, dining and recreational options found in Greenwood, one of the largest cities in South Carolina’s Piedmont region.

Home to Lander, Greenwood is located in western South Carolina’s beautiful Piedmont region, only a few hours’ drive from both the Blue Ridge Mountains and the state’s magnificent coastline. With a city population of about 28,000 and a county population exceeding 65,000, Greenwood has a lot to offer – from dining and shopping, to parks, golf and outdoor recreation.

Along with a series of festivals and outdoor concerts, Uptown Greenwood is a vibrant and unique place to eat, shop and enjoy the diverse culture of our area. With a revitalized arts district that includes the Greenwood Museum, Greenwood Community Theatre and several art galleries, the Uptown area is a popular destination for students and tourists.  

Lake Greenwood

One of the largest lakes in the region, Lake Greenwood has more than 200 miles of shoreline extending into three counties. The Lake Greenwood State Park offers excellent facilities for fishing, camping, boating and swimming, as well as nature trails. 

Lander Line -

The Lander Line shuttle service is available seven days a week, making it easier for Lander University students to travel safely from campus to Uptown Greenwood and other nearby areas. 


Ninety Six National Historic Site

A part of the National Park Service, the 1,022-acre Ninety Six National Historic Site, in eastern Greenwood County, is the location of two significant Revolutionary War battles, including the longest field siege of the American Revolution. The park’s Star Fort, built in 1780-81, is a popular attraction, along with the many cultural and historical programs that are planned there each year.
