College students sometimes find it difficult and stressful to transfer to another school, but Lander University is prepared to smooth the way for students who are interested in transferring to the university.
Lander's Admissions Office has designated August 4–8 as Transfer Week when academic deans and chairs and staff from various offices will be available to assist prospective students with each phase of the transfer process.
Gavin Bethea, Lander's assistant admissions director and transfer coordinator, said, "Our goal is to make it as easy as possible for students who want to change schools to come to Lander."
Bethea said transfer students most often have questions about which courses the new school will accept for credit, how long it will take to earn a degree, the availability of evening and online classes and the cost of tuition and other fees.
During Lander's Transfer Week, transcript evaluations and admission decisions will be made in 24 hours or less with faculty advisement and registration as soon as the following day. The $35 application fee and $100 housing deposit will be waived for students who submit their applications during Transfer Week.
No appointment is necessary to meet with an admissions counselor during Transfer Week, but students must bring copies of transcripts from each college they have attended. Counselors will also assist with housing and financial aid questions.
Bethea said fall classes at Lander are scheduled to begin on Tuesday, Sept. 2. The deadline for applying for fall admission is Sept. 8, but Bethea recommends that transfer students avoid the last minute rush by completing the application and registration process during Transfer Week.
Information about Lander's academic programs, the campus and other details are available on the university's Web site: www.lander.edu. Prospective transfer students who want to visit the campus are invited to call the Admissions Office to arrange a tour.
