Global Scholars Program
Lander University believes that global understanding is important. Lander’s successful Study Abroad Program and its Honors International Program both support the goal of producing leaders who have experienced the culture of another country.
Each year, Lander will offer a semester of study abroad, at no additional cost*, to twenty entering freshmen. To be eligible, applicants must:
- Enter Lander as a freshman student
- Have an SAT score of at least 1300 combined verbal and math
- Have a high school GPA of at least 3.5
- Be in the top 10% of their high school class
- Have completed a minimum of 30 semester hours at Lander, with a 3.0 GPA
- Take the HP 111 Global Issues in the Arts and Humanities seminar
Each Global Scholar, with his or her advisor, will choose a study abroad experience appropriate to the student’s major, from a list of approved programs. A partial listing of presently approved study abroad programs includes:
- Universidad de Belgrano (Argentina)
- Universidad de Vina del Mar (Chile)
- University of Winchester (England)
- University of Rhodes (Greece)
- Universidad de Sevilla (Spain)
Lander will pay for:
- Tuition at host institution
- Room and board to host institution or to program provider
- Round trip airfare from Atlanta
- Passport and Visa fees
Student will pay the usual amount charged for:
- Lander tuition and fees
- Average Lander room cost and cost of 21-meal plan
- Incidentals, books and local, in country transportation (estimate of $1600)
