GENERAL INFORMATION  - UNIVERSITY OF SUSSEX

 

The University of Sussex is located in Falmer, which is on the south coast of England near Brighton and about one hour from London by train.  The University serves approximately 10,000 students of whom 25% are international students, including about 300 from North America.  The parkland campus is very attractive.

 

SPECIAL NOTE:  Unlike many of the UK's smaller universities, Sussex offers a full range of courses in science, mathematics, and engineering.  Lander students in these disciplines who wish to spend a regular semester abroad should consider this university.  See Dr. Paige Ouzts for additional information.

 

SUMMER PROGRAM - UNIVERSITY OF SUSSEX

  

The International Summer School is recommended to Lander students.  A student may take one course (equivalent to 4.5 semester hours at Lander) during each of the two separate four-week sessions.  A wide variety of interesting courses are offered, including many which treat such interdisciplinary topics as British Popular Culture; Kissin’ Cousins: The African-American Experience (in America); British Theatre; Walking into History: Brighton and Hove: the City, and Social Change; Shakespeare’s Plays and the Elizabethan Theatre; The Politics of the European Union; Class and Inequality in British Society; etc.  NOTE:  Some laboratory science courses are also offered!

 

2007 PROGRAM DATES: June 25 – July 20 & July 23 – August 17

 

APPROXIMATE COST: $2000 tuition per 4-week session + $150/wk housing + $130/wk food, etc. + travel

 

APPLICATION DEADLINE (thru Lander's Study Abroad Office): March 16, 2007.  A deposit of $200 is required.
