Campus Parking

Parking regulations are established to maintain an orderly traffic flow and to assure fair and equal access to parking on Lander University campus. The goal is to make parking on campus as convenient and uncomplicated as possible.

 

·          Zoned Parking on campus is between the hours of 7:00 am - 5:00 pm (Monday – Friday).  Violators of zoned parking will be issued a citation and the vehicle will be towed at the owner's expense. 

 

·          Visiting Parking Spaces are enforced between the hours of 7:00am -5:00pm (Monday –m m m m Friday).  These spaces are open for general parking after hours and on weekends.

 

·          Guest Parking-  Temporary parking permits are issued, free of charge, to guests of Lander University.  A limit of two temporary parking permits will be issued for guests. Temporary parking permits are issued for a maximum of two weeks.   Guests may pick-up a temporary parking permit at the Lander University Police Department.

 

·          Handicapped Parking Permits - To obtain a temporary handicapped parking permit for longer than two weeks, a signed statement from a physician must be furnished to the University Police Department. These permits are valid only on Lander campus. All temporary handicapped parking permits must be renewed annually, including a physician’s new statement dated within thirty days of the renewal application.

 

·          Parking Permits –i All vehicles must have parking permits between hours of 7:00am – 5:00pm (Monday-Thursday) and between 8:00am – 12:00noon on Friday.  

Parking Permits should be displayed on the lower left-hand corner (driver’s side) of the front windshield.   Parking permits may be purchased in the University Police Department during normal university business hours.

 

It is a violation of this policy for anyone to obtain additional parking permits and transfer them to persons outside of the immediate family. Anyone found in violation of this policy will be subject to a fine of $25.00.

o    Students rates for parking permits:

§   One Semester - $30.00

§   Entire Year, including summer - $50.00

§   Summer Session only - $10.00

§   Additional permits-   $5.00 each  

 

·          Loading or Un-Loading - Individuals wishing to park in areas other than a designated parking space to load or unload their vehicle must first call the University Police Department (388-8222) to obtain approval. There is a fifteen minute limit for parking in this manner. The use of emergency flashers is not sufficient for this purpose. Under no circumstances are handicapped parking spaces used for loading or unloading vehicles. 

 

Students and faculty/staff members whose vehicles are brought onto campus are held responsible for any citations issued to that vehicle regardless of who may have been actually operating the vehicle at the time of the citation. Also, students & faculty/staff members who drive a vehicle on campus which, is not registered to them are responsible for citations issued to that vehicle.

 

·          Towing Zones - Certain areas on campus are towing zones.   Vehicles parked in these areas will be towed at the owner’s expense in cases where they are abandoned, disrupt the normal traffic flow, damage landscape, create a traffic hazard, or parked in a reserved space.

 

·          Reserved Parking –i i i < /span> is enforced seven days a week from 7:00a.m. -7:00p.m.  Unauthorized vehicles in reserved spaces will be towed at the owner / driver’s expense and issued a parking citation of $25.00.

 

·          FINES for parking violations on Lander campus are as follows:

o    Parking in a Handicapped Space - $100

o      Parking in a Fire Lane - $50

o      Parking in a Service & Delivery Space - $35

o    Parking in a Visitors’ Space - $35

o    Parking in a Reserved Space - $25

o    Parking in a Yellow Zone/Improper Parking - $25

o    No Parking Permit - $25

o    Failure to Display Parking Permit - $10

o    Fraudulent Use of a Parking Permit - $25

o    Zone Parking Violation - $25

 

·          Appeals of parking citations and towing charges may be made to the traffic committee within ten working days of the citation whenever one feels that he/she has been improperly charged. Appeal forms are available in the University Police Department or online. The person submitting the appeal will be advised the results of the appeal by mail. Arrangements for a personal appeal to the traffic committee are, also, made through the University Police Department. 

 

·          Motorcycles are to park in legal parking spaces and should display a current parking permit. The motorcycle owner in conjunction with University Police personnel will determine the appropriate place to display the permit. Permits are available in the University Police Department at a cost of $50 for the year or $30 per semester. If a permit has been purchased for a vehicle, the motorcycle permit will be considered an additional permit at a cost of $5.
