Counseling Services

Counseling Services offices are responsible for alcohol awareness programs, Student Affairs assessment activities, peer assistance program development, student development educational programs, the EXPO summer orientation activity, the Health Education series, leadership development programs, student development issues and concerns, personal and group counseling, student health services, and responsibility (to the University President) for monitoring University student retention and stimulating retention efforts.

Each Lander student’s University experience is, ideally, a time of personal as well as intellectual growth. However, sometimes problems -- personal or physical -- may "press" on an individual until success and persistence as a student become increasingly difficult. Offices within the Department of Counseling Services exist in order to help prevent such problems, or to assist students in dealing with problems once they occur.

Personal counseling is available at no charge.  Counseling is individualized to accommodate each students needs, and is confidential.  Student may experiencing difficulties such as low morale, relationship problems, time management pressures, alcohol or drug abuse, and subpar academic performance.  Our mission is to assist you in overcoming and working through your problems.

Physical health service contacts and consultations are available on campus to residence hall students at Student Health Services, and campus nurses refer campus residents -- without a per-visit charge – to physicians at the Montgomery Center for Family Practice. Off campus students may obtain referral information about local physicians from the Campus Nurse although off campus residents are responsible for all payment incurred in their health treatment.

Personal counseling is accessible by appointment or on a walk-in basis for students willing to wait for counselor availability. Services rendered by the campus nurses are available only on a walk-in basis; no appointments are taken. A wide range of presentations and informational programs are offered by both the counseling staff and by Student Health Services.
