Family Day

Lander students and their families are invited to Bearcat Country's Family Day! This is a fantastic time for parents, grandparents and the entire family to visit their college student while enjoying some great food and music!

What can you expect at Family Day? 

  • Fun Activities such as giant inflatables, face-painting, corn hole toss competition, painting, and so much more!  

  • Live Performances and Entertainment!  Musical performances from Grammy and Dove award winning artist, Rudy Currence, and the student organization, Minorities on the Move performs on-stage from 12:00pm-2:00pm.  At 2:00pm head over to the Cultural Center Auditorium British Comedy Juggler and America’s Got Talent quarter finalist, Nick Pike.  End the day off with a movie showing of Spider-Man: Homecoming at 9:30pm in the Cultural Center Auditorium. 

  • Picnic Lunch from 12:00pm-2:00pm inside the Grier Student Center.  Students with meal plans should bring their Lander ID.  Meals are $7 for adults and $5 for kids 10 & under.  Lander University students can use their meal plans.  Credit cards and cash are accepted.  An ATM is available inside of the student center and learning center. 
  • Bearcat Spirit!  Catch the spirit and head over to the Jeff May Complex for a 7:00pm soccer match against Carson-Newman University.

Family Day Schedule
*All events are free unless otherwise noted.  More events will be added as the day gets closer.
 

8:00am-12:00pm – Grace Street Park Work Day Community Service Project - The Greenwood Parks & Trails Foundation sponsors a work day event each month.  Lander University students and faculty have teamed up with the Greenwood community to build and maintain parks and trails in the Greenwood area.  We encourage you to visit GPTF website at gwdparks.org to take advantage of some awesome outdoor venues. Gloves/water & snacks will be provided.  Join in anytime!

10:00am – Wood and Brush Paint Party (registration required) ($25) – Assembly Plaza (next to Library and Cultural Center) – Sponsored by Lander Cheer and Dance – Choose your design and custom lettering.  Contact Elizabeth.robertson1@lander.edu or register on the Lander Cheer and Dance Facebook page.

12:00pm-2pm – Tailgate Lunch Buffet with Live Music ft. Grammy Award Winning Artists Rudy Currence and Minorities on the Move

2:00pm - British Comedy Juggler and America’s Got Talent quarter finalist, Nick Pike – Cultural Center Auditorium – Free

3:00pm - Corn Hole Tournament (registration required) ($5 entry fee – All proceeds will go to Campus Recreation’s Barbells for Boobs breast cancer awareness fundraiser) – PEES Circle (by flagpoles) - Sponsored by Campus Recreation

5:00-7:00pm – Dinner on Your Own – Try out one of the area Greenwood restaurants – Click here to view a list of local restaurants 

7:00pm – Men’s Soccer vs. Carson-Newman University – Van Taylor Stadium at the Jeff May Complex – FREE 

  • Kids Zone featuring inflatables, face painters, balloon artists and train rides will be open before home matches. All attractions will start 45 minutes prior to kickoff and end with 15 minutes remaining in the first half.

Fireworks Show Immediately following the completion of the soccer match - - Van Taylor Stadium at the Jeff May Complex – FREE

The Lander University Bookstore is offering a sale of 20% regularly priced apparel, merchandise, and hats during Family Day.  Be sure to stop by the bookstore located in the Grier Student Center.
