The Lander Biology department has given me the advantage of taking many biological courses, providing me with a well rounded knowledge of both plant and animal systems. The courses offered have better prepared me than other biology programs would have because of the hands-on laboratory experience and the higher expectations in the classroom. The biology faculty are very approachable and show a personal interest in your future goals. With Lander being a small school, classes are usually no more than 50 students, allowing the professors to know you by name, which is something that is not found at larger universities.

I chose to attend Lander because I believed that, as a small campus, it would be able to offer me more hands-on experiences, and I could not have been more right. The Lander University Biology department is exceedingly competitive. The coursework offers a great challenge, but I believe the way the material is presented by the faculty is what gives this department its strength. The Biology department ensures that we not only learn the material, but that we are also able to apply it. I think this is one of the many reasons for the high success rate in this department. Lander has provided me the opportunity to become involved and pushed me to hold positions of leadership through responsibilities including: the National Biological Honor Society, Beta Beta Beta, Environmental Science Student Organization and the Campus Recreation Board. I am also a Resident Assistant. The university has also provided me the opportunity to study abroad at the University of Winchester for a semester, which provided me with knowledge and a new perspective that I would not consider trading for anything. Overall, Lander University has been an amazing experience; I believe it has prepared me well for graduate school and my future career.
