Dr. Paul Criswell is Emeritus Professor of Music at Lander University, where he served as Director of Choral Activities and Composer-in-Residence for over 20 years. He received both his B.M. and M.M. degrees from West Virginia University and his PhD form the University of Maryland at College Park. Dr. Criswell began his public school teaching career as Director of Choirs at Shadyside High School in Ohio. He then spent nine years as a Music Specialist with the Marshall County School System in West Virginia. His collegiate teaching career has included full-time positions at Bethany College, The University of Maryland, The Penn State University, St. Mary of the Plains College and Lander University.Dr. Criswell is a nationally known composer with works published by Carl Fischer, Columbia Pictures Publications, Belwin-Mills, and Warner Brothers. Dr. Criswell studied composition with Dr. Thomas Canning while at WVU and studied in seminars and workshops with world renowned composers Ned Rorem, David Diamond, and Aaron Copland. Dr. Criswell has won several composition awards and commissions. He served as Composer-in-Residence for VOICES XXI, a professional choir in Washington, DC. Dr. Criswell was awarded Lander University's Distinguished Professor Award in 1994.
