3 winners, 2 weeks, 1 line: Aspiring Filmmakers Apply Now to Lander’s 8th Annual Film Festival

March 21, 2017

Filmmakers, let one of Hollywood’s top screenwriters write for you. Chris Columbus, Bob Gale and Steven E. de Souza have written legendary films including Back to the Future, Die Hard, 48 Hours and others. This spring they’ve written lines specifically for entrants in Lander University’s 2WK Short Film Competition.

Filmmakers will compete for top honors in three categories: Young Filmmakers (high school or younger), College Division, or Open Division. Chris Columbus has written a line to be used for the Young Filmmaker Division, Bob Gale for the College Division, and Steven E. de Souza for the Open Division.

Entrants will have two weeks to write, shoot, and edit their films, incorporating their category’s line. The competition is open to filmmakers of all ages and skill levels. There are no thematic limitations for the films, which must be between three and five minutes long. Films must be shot and edited between Monday, March 27 and Monday, April 10. The completed short film must be submitted no later than Monday, April 10 at 5 p.m. to be eligible for the competition.

The competition is part of the 8th Annual Lander Film Festival, which will be held April 20- 22 with the 2WK Short Film Competition Awards Ceremony held at 6:30 p.m., Saturday, April 22. The competition entry fee is $10 for students and $25 for the open division. This includes 1 ticket to the awards ceremony.

Fees (cash, check or credit cards through The Lander Foundation, link on Film Festival website, www.landerfilmfestival.com) are due March 27 at 5 p.m. during the initial meeting in Lander’s Carnell Learning Center Room 200.

Films will be judged during the week leading up to the festival, at which winners will be announced during an awards ceremony and winning-entry screening.

First through third place awards will be presented in each division. Other awards may include a Writer's Choice Award, Director's Choice Award, and Best Actor Award. A full schedule of events for Lander’s Film Festival is available online or on the Lander University Film Festival Facebook page.
