First-Year Advising

Our mission as Academic Success Advisors is to engage first-year students in clarifying their educational goals and offering academic and social direction through an enriched, proactive, advising model.

What is advising?

Each Lander student will have a first-year advisor who can assist in several areas: choosing a major, exploring career options, responding to early alert concerns from professors and selecting courses for the following semester. The advisor gives advice: students must take responsibility for their own choices, for selection of their academic program, and for meeting university deadlines. Students will transition to a faculty advisor in their chosen major for their sophomore, junior, and senior year.

When do I meet with my Advisor?

Students will meet their advisors during summer preview and orientation events, and are required to meet with their advisors at least once during the semester to schedule classes for the following term. Students are encouraged to meet with their advisor at any point throughout the semester, with any questions they may have.
