Department of Physical Sciences

Student Groups

The Department of Physical Sciences has two active student organizations:  the American Chemical Society (ACS) and the Environmental Science Student Organization (ESSO).

The student organizations are primarily set up for science majors but all students are welcome to participate in the organization's activities.  The organizations allow students to become more involved in extracurricular activities and as a way to become better acquainted with the Department of Physical Sciences' faculty and upper level science students at Lander University.  The purpose of the organizations is to supply the students with the knowledge of what chemistry or environmental science is all about and the opportunities present  in the real world.  Also, the organization discusses and helps the students identify some of the career opportunities that are available to science majors including academics, industrial and governmental careers.

The organizations are involved in many areas in and around the Lander campus.  The organizations have three major areas that are concentrated on during the academic year.  These areas include service to Lander University and the surrounding Greenwood community, professional development of the students, and social and recreational activities.
