Advising FAQ's

Question 1: Who is your advisor?

If you are new to the Psychology Department and need an advisor please speak with Jennie Baker, Administrative Assistant in LC 353, or Dr. Sonntag, Department Chair about assigning an advisor, according to your needs.

OR

If you are unsure of who your advisor is or just have questions please check with Jennie Baker, Administrative Assistant in LC 353 and she will help you.

OR

Check on Bearcat Web! Your advisor should be listed in your account.

Question 2: What are the steps to Advising/Registration?

Step 1: Find out the name and contact information of your advisor
Step 2: Sign up with your advisor for an advising session (if they do not have a sign-up sheet posted on the door, then email or call them). If you show up unannounced do not expect them to be able to accommodate you then, as they may have other plans.
Step 3: Complete advising session with advisor! Afterwards complete the advising survey and bring it to the Administrative Assistant, Jennie Baker, in LC 353 to have your advising hold taken off of your Bearcat Web account. (YOU MAY NOT REGISTER WITHOUT BEING ADVISED FIRST!)
Step 4: Register on Bearcat Web for the proper classes.

Question 3: Must I register for the classes that they advise me to take?

There are very few things in life than any adult can MAKE another adult do. So, of course, you can take whatever classes you wish—but you will suffer the consequences of your decisions. Your advisor knows when courses are scheduled to be offered in future semesters and understands how the curriculum fits together. Therefore, you are strongly urged to follow the advice of your advisor and take classes when they tell you to. If you get out of sequence and can't graduate on time because you didn't follow their advice, don't expect anyone to fix it for you later.
