Peace studies conference at Lander a success
Lander University hosted its first annual Peace Studies Conference on Saturday, March
14. The conference, sponsored by the university and the Greenwood chapter of People to People
International (PTPI), brought together Lander faculty to examine the subject of peace studies from
historical, political and psychological perspectives.

Lander University will host a Peace Studies Conference sponsored by the Greenwood and Lander
chapters of People to People International (PTPI), on Saturday, March 14, from 9 am to 2:30 pm. The
program is free and open to the public and will be held at locations in Lander's Grier Student
Center.
Student receives
prestigious Rotary International scholarship
Lander University junior Beth Burnette loves to travel. The Elberton, Ga., native spent 15
days in Japan as part of a high school exchange program, and she has traveled to Spain.
Burnette has received a Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholarship worth $11,000 to underwrite
expenses associated with her semester of study next fall at Sociedad Hispano Mundial, The World
Hispanic Society, in Granada, which specializes in Spanish language courses.
Jinny Moran of Greenville sharpens her law enforcement skills online
Jinny Moran wanted to expand her knowledge of law enforcement, a field she
has worked in for 25 years, so she was one of the first to enroll in Lander University’s online
criminal justice management program introduced in 2006.
Lander to host mock presidential debate
Lander University students will portray presidential candidates John McCain and Barack Obama
in a mock debate scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 22, at 7 p.m., in Lander’s Cultural Center
Auditorium.

Greenwood deputies Tarleton and Graham are lawmen, family men and students
Investigators Blane Tarleton and Jeff Graham of the Greenwood County
Sheriff's Department are among more than 20 law enforcement officers enrolled in Lander
University's first-in-the state online criminal justice program. And their bosses have more than a
casual interest in their success.
Tracy Jordan of McCormick: Lawman, family man, Lander student
Sgt. Tracey Jordan of the McCormick Police Department was one of the first law enforcement officers to enroll in Lander University’s online criminal justice management program when it was introduced in 2006 and says the course has lived up to his expectations. Lander was the first public educational institution in South Carolina to offer criminal justice management online, giving Jordan and other lawmen and women the opportunity to complete requirements for a bachelor’s degree at their own pace.
