Department of Nursing

MEMORANDUM

To:          Nursing Community of Interest

From:      Lander University Department of Nursing

              Bernice Daugherty, Chair

Subject:  Initial Accreditation by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education

During the time period, October 6-8, 2010, the Lander University

Baccalaureate Nursing Education Program will undergo evaluation by

CCNE to determine eligibility for initial accreditation by this national nursing

accrediting body. CCNE requires that programs applying for accreditation

offer the opportunity to interested parties to submit “written input into the

deliberations of an evaluation team”. “Written and signed third-party

comments will be accepted by CCNE until 30 days before the visit” or until

September 6, 2010. Written comments are to be sent to the Commission

on Nursing Education at One Dupont Circle, NW, Suite 530, Washington,

DC 20037-1120 and to the attention of Ms. Amanda Brownbridge,

Accreditation Assistant.

Third-party comments are shared with “members of the evaluation team

prior to the visit, but at no time during the review process are these

comments shared with the program”.

If you have questions about this process, please direct them to Ms.

Brownbridge at (202)887-6791 x252 or abrownbridge@aacn.nche.edu

What is the degree program like?

Lander's nursing degree program is accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission, indicating that the program has exceeded standards for quality in nursing education.  Graduates of this program are eligible to take the national examination to become licensed as registered nurses.  They find employment in a wide variety of nursing positions or continue in graduate work.  Lander also offers a Nursing Honors option and an online Bachelor of Science in nursing option for registered nurses.  Nursing majors share experiences with fellow students through the Lander University Student Nurses Association, the African-American Nursing Student Nurses Network or the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing.

What career opportunities
are available?

Our graduates are successful in attaining entry-level positions in a variety of nursing settings, including county and regional hospitals, private and public clinics, and doctors' offices.  Some continue their education in graduate nursing programs at universities across the country.

Did you know?

Lander nursing graduates have had a 93 percent cumulative pass rate for first-time takers of the RN licensing exam over the past six years, the highest rate among four-year public schools in the state.
