Five students were honored recently when Lander University’s William Preston Turner School of Nursing held its annual Nursing Recognition Ceremony as a prelude to the university’s spring graduation.

The recipient must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 and be active in student nurses’ activities, including departmental committees.

DaJada Young, of Columbia, was selected to receive the Clinical Excellence Award for outstanding clinical practice, client-centered care, innovation in nursing care and practice, and demonstration of management and problem-solving skills.

Receiving the Professional Nursing Award was Andrea Marshall, of Greenwood. Recipients of the award must demonstrate leadership qualities in the practice of professional nursing, including participation in the Student Nurses’ Association and other health-related community activities.

Ebony Garrick, of Irmo, was the recipient of the Professional Development Award, which recognizes a Lander nursing student who shows substantial professional growth and development.

The Lydia M. Parrish Nursing Scholarship, awarded to a graduate of the RN to BSN program in support of graduate studies in nursing, went to Rachel Griggs, of Greenwood.

During the ceremony, held in Lander’s Josephine B. Abney Cultural Center Auditorium, the School of Nursing also awarded pins to all students graduating in the pre-licensure and RN-BSN programs.
