Job Duties and Qualifications for Student Employment:
CIRCULATION (Supervisor - Head of Circulation)
Use an automated system to check material in and out, arrange material for shelving, help students with microfilm readers, help students make copies, keep the library and circulation area neat, handle money for fines, copies and other purposes, answer the telephone and transfer calls, prepare mailings, and type as needed.

SHELVING (Supervisor - Head of Circulation)
Arrange books in call number order, ensure that books have been checked in correctly, place
books on book trucks and shelves in correct call number order, maintain shelves in neat and
accurate order, shelf read for order, and perform other related duties and special projects.
CONTINUING RESOURCES (Supervisor - Continuing Resources Librarian)
Assist Continuing Resources Librarian with all aspects of the maintenance of the Jackson
Library’s newspaper, scholarly journal, and popular magazine collections. Examples of duties
include putting these materials away on shelves and keeping them in good order so that library
users can easily find them. Assist Continuing Resources Librarian with bindery
responsibilities. Examples of duties include unpacking and moving materials; pulling and
boxing up items for bindery; and verifying receipt of correct item from binder. Assist
Continuing Resources Librarian with maintenance of online scholarly journals. Examples of
duties include examining records in the online catalog and testing to see if links work
correctly. Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned.
GOVERNMENT DOCUMENTS (Supervisor - Government Documents Librarian)
Assist Government Documents Librarian with all aspects of the maintenance of the Jackson
Library’s Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP) and the South Carolina State Documents Library
Program. Duties include but are not limited to: Opening of shipment boxes and envelopes from
the FDLP and South Carolina State Library, processing of the items, verifying each shipment for
content and accuracy, shelving of state and federal documents, and other special projects as
assigned by the supervisor.
