The Index-Journal: Special Editions
Published in Greenwood, South Carolina
Format: Original Print
Location: Lander Archive
Series: HN 2008:3
Scope and Content:
These bound editions and boxes contain special editions of The Index-Journal. These editions reflect Greenwood’s history, as well as document some national events of importance. The “Greater Greenwood Edition” of 1925 focuses on the industrial, residential, and economic growth of the town and surrounding communities, such as Ware Shoals and Ninety-Six. In 1929, The “G&F Edition” commemorates the addition of South Carolina to the Georgia & Florida Railroad with Greenwood as the ending point. The “Progress Edition” celebrates the anniversaries of Greenwood County and the Index-Journal as well as the industrial and commercial development of Greenwood. The Buzzard Roost Edition of 1938 celebrates the project of the same name, which supplied Greenwood County with a lake. The second Bound Edition holds the Centennial Edition of The Index-Journal which chronicles Greenwood’s journey from a small town to an industrial city.
The boxes contain special textile mill editions and other important local and national headlines. Historically, the paper’s special editions provide a sense of progression from issue to issue, and also show Lander University's (at the time Lander College) impact on the community from the town’s perspective. The finding aid notes where Lander University is mentioned in the editions.
The content is arranged chronologically.
