Lander University’s Archives and Special Collection
Lander Archive
The primary mission of the University Archives is to document the growth of Lander University, the University’s history, the activities of its faculty, student body and alumni, and the development of its physical plant and grounds. In doing so, it identifies, collects, preserves, and provides access to university records of enduring value. Secondly, the University Archive records and demonstrates the University’s commitment to and relationship with the community of Greenwood.
Special Collections
The University Archive also houses and preserves books and other materials concerned with the history of Greenwood County, as well as all other books determined to be special to Lander or rare. The Lander Collection consists of monographs written or edited by Lander faculty and monographs written about Lander University or Greenwood County. The Watson Collection consists of monographs and pamphlets collected by Harry Legare Watson (1876-1956), the editor and publisher of the Index-Journal.
Forms of Material Collected
Archival records, books of value, photos, A-V, maps, pamphlets, memorabilia and scrapbooks.
Patrons
University faculty, staff, students, researchers and members of the community are permitted to use the Lander Archives.
Resource Sharing
The Lander Archives will not loan material from the collection to individuals or to other institutions. Limited photocopying or scanning will be done upon written request if the individual is unable to travel to the University to use the Archives and Special Collections.
Donations
The Lander Archive will accept any type of material that has met the criteria of the collection policy, as stated in the mission statement.
