Power Failure in the Library: Electricity or Air Conditioning
Immediate Response:
- Contact University Police at 8222
- If University Police cannot be contacted and the power remains off, contact Commission of Public Works (CPW) at 864-942-8100 or 864-223-1666 (nights, Sundays and Holidays)
- Contact a librarian if one is not there
Secondary Response:
- Once power is restored, a librarian will need to log the circulation terminals back on.
- If the power is not going to come back on in a reasonable amount of time (within one hour), a decision about closing should be made. Call University Police to close the building. The University Police should do a walk through of the library with flash lights on all three floors before locking the doors.
- For the Dean, note 1) when the lights went out, 2) when or if the library was closed, 3) the number of students in the library when it was closed, and 4) who was contacted.
Flash Lights are Located:
a) Behind the circulation desk on a shelf closest to the reading room
b) By an emergency exit in technical services
c) Under the reference desk
d) In Glen O’Conner’s office next to the computer lab upstairs, and
e) In the desk in the archive
