Flood/water leakage emergencies
Immediate Response:
- Determine exact location and source of the problem
- During work day, notify the Dean of the Library, who will call Physical Plant (8200). If Dean is not present, tell another librarian to contact Physical Plant
- Evenings and weekends call University Police (ext. 8911) to report the problem. Then call the Dean of the Library. After that contact is made, contact Susan to determine if the phone tree should be activated
- Evacuate patrons and staff from wet areas to prevent patrons from walking through the water. If the electrical system has not been disconnected this could cause disastrous consequences
- If water is coming from above, drape the collection using plastic sheeting and other materials (stored at the end of the circulation desk closest to the exit)
- If water is coming from below, move collection to higher shelves or book trucks
Secondary Response:
- When area is safe, remove items in order of priority with the help of a librarian
