Fire in the Library

 

Immediate Response:

 

• Sound alarm nearest the closest exit to evacuate the library

• Leave the building

• Call University Police (8911); Call 9911 if University Police cannot be contacted immediately after exiting the library at the yellow call box in front of the building

• Zone coordinators begin assisting with the evacuation of their zones.  

 

If the fire is small enough to be immediately contained with a fire extinguisher, find an extinguisher that is nearest to you and put it out.   Use your judgment.

 

Secondary Response:

 

• The librarian on duty should notify the Dean of the library and activate the phone tree.

• As soon as possible the librarians will evaluate the extent of the damage and discuss recovery.
