Microsoft Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 File Formats
The Compatibility Pack (File Format Converter) linked below will allow you to open, edit, and save files using the new file formats available in Word 2007, Excel 2007, and PowerPoint 2007 from Word, Excel, or PowerPoint versions 2000, XP, or 2003.
To install the File Format Converter:
- Click on the link below.
- Click Run to allow the File Format Converter to install.
- Read and accept the Microsoft License to continue the installation.
- When installation is complete, you will see a notification screen. Click 'OK'.
- The File Format Converters have been applied to Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, so next time you open the program, you will be able to open documents created with Office 2007 products. You will be able to edit those documents or save your documents as Word 2007, Excel 2007, or PowerPoint 2007 documents by choosing File -- Save As, and using the drop-down menu to choose the appropriate document type.

If you are using Office 2007, it is advisable to save your files in formats that are compatible with earlier versions of Office so that fellow students and faculty can easily view your files.
In order to successfully upload documents from Word 2007 to Blackboard (WebCT), you will need to save your document as a Word 97-2003 formatted document. This is because of a known issue in Blackboard, and will be necessary until the issue is resolved by Blackboard. Instructions for saving compatible documents from Word 2007 are linked here.
