HAZARDOUS WEATHER & OTHER EMERGENCY CONDITIONS
PROCEDURES
WHEN INCLEMENT WEATHER NECESSITATES CANCELLATION OR DELAY OF CLASSES OR UNIVERSITY CLOSING:
1. Students follow whatever directive is given by President or Governor.
2. If President cancels or delays classes, offices will be open normal hours. Any delays will begin with 8 a.m. classes.
3. If Governor closes or delays opening of State offices, Lander offices will close or delay, and classes will be cancelled or delayed as directed by the Governor. Any delays will begin at 8 a.m.
HOW TO COUNT ABSENCES IN EMERGENCY
The Governor can elect to provide State employees with leave with pay for absences due to hazardous weather conditions for up to 5 days for each declaration of emergency. Essential employees required to work during the emergency, should earn compensatory time on an hour-for-hour basis. If time is not excused by the Governor, then annual leave, comp time, or leave without pay may be applied for; or supervisors may work with employees to make up this time.
HAZARDOUS WEATHER AND OTHER EMERGENCY CONDITIONS
The hazardous weather policy gives the Governor the sole authority to declare a state of emergency because of extreme weather conditions or other specified emergencies. "Emergency conditions" means circumstances that would expose University employees to harmful or unsafe conditions.
The policy states that between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. all Declarations of Emergency will be transmitted by the Governor's Office to the news media. Associates will assume an individual responsibility to respond in an appropriate manner to closings as they may be announced.
