Holiday Tree Lighting

All activities are free and open to Lander students, faculty, staff and alumni.


The official lighting of the tree kicks off with musical performances from the surrounding Greenwood and Lander community. This event is LINK 101 approved.

Festivities on the Plaza
5 - 8 p.m.

A flurry of activities includes horse-drawn carriage rides, ice skating, ornament decorating, snow globe portraits, roasting marshmallows over an open fire, a competition to build the best gingerbread house and a contest for those who wish to show off their tackiest holiday sweaters and ties. Tommy Claus Donations
In continuing the goodwill initiatives of the university, those enjoying the festivities are asked to bring an unwrapped toy for children ages 4-12 in support of Tommy Claus (no stuffed animals, please). Collection boxes will be available at the event. Donated toys will be delivered to needy children in the Lakelands area during the Christmas season.

Official Lighting of the Tree 
7:45 p.m. Lawn of Chipley Hall

Gather around the 40-foot Spruce tree for a merry countdown and the official lighting of the tree!

Wind Ensemble "Fa-La-La" Concert
8 p.m.  Auditorium of the Josephine B. Abney Cultural Center

The evening concludes with the Lander Wind Ensemble’s “Fa-La-La Christmas Concert” beginning at 8 p.m. in the Josephine B. Abney Cultural Center Auditorium. The concert is free and open to the public. It is FALS-Approved for students.
