English Minor

Chipley Hall, named after Marvin S. Chipley, a Greenwood benefactor, was rennovated in 1981.

The English Minor

Students in any major other than English  may minor in English by taking 18 hours of upper level English courses including one course from each of the following groups:

  • English 301-339, 405-412 (literature)
  • English 345 or 413 (language)
  • English 353-364; 417 (writing)

Dr. Rieger's Maddness and Literature Class.

The English Minor—Applied Emphasis

Students in any major other than English may pursue the Applied Emphasis English Minor by taking the following courses:

  • English 275
  • English 350
  • English 364 or 373
  • Two upper level English courses
  • One 400 level English course
 

The Writing Minor

Students taking a writing minor will take 18 hours of writing courses above the 100 level, distributed as follows:

  • 3 hours—English 345 Introduction to Language>
  • 9 hours--Courses within an emphasis
  • 6 hours---Writing electives

The student may choose from the following emphases:

Creative Writing

  • English 353 Writing Poetry
  • English 354 Writing Fiction
  • English 364 Writing Nonfiction
  • Theatre 390 Scriptwriting

 

Journalism

  • Journalism 201 Introduction to Journalism
  • Journalism 301 Newspaper Studies
  • Journalism 375 Feature and Magazine Writing

Elective courses may include (1) two courses from outside the area of emphasis or (2) one course from outside the area of concentration and English 490 (Internship) or Journalism 490 (Internship).

 
Science, Mathematics, and Computer Science Complex includes clasrooms, offices and labs serving the Division of Biological and Physical Sciences.
